Mediation is an important tool for resolving a dispute between two parties. Mediation is a cheap tool (compared to conducting legal proceedings) and is recommended for spouses who wish to end their married life with a comprehensive divorce agreement, and avoid unnecessary and expensive legal proceedings.

The mediation procedure is suitable for spouses who understand that their life together is over, and have differences of opinion regarding their separation, such as the amount of alimony, the division of property, the division of residence times, etc.

As part of the mediation process, a negotiation is conducted between the parties, in which each party presents its claims and the mediator helps the communication process and understanding between the parties. The role of the mediator is to help the parties understand the main points of disagreement between them and to consider different options for a solution. The mediator tries to help the parties reach agreements and bridge the differences of opinion as a neutral facilitator, and he cannot decide for the parties or impose a certain solution on them.

As part of the procedure, there are joint meetings of both spouses with the mediator in his office and separate meetings of the mediator with each of the parties. The things said during the mediation process are secret and confidential and cannot be revealed or used as evidence in court.

During the mediation process, the mediation agreement is drawn up – the divorce agreement that includes all the agreements reached as part of the mediation process. The divorce agreement must be approved by the family court.
